If you don't believe that nationals from last year already happened, well think about it: Jesse was a senior and since Vocal Adrenaline won he would be going to Nationals but the following school year he would be in California at UCLA, remember?
So nationals already happened.
Ohhh that makes sense, thanks Anon! I guess I was confused cos he seemed to jump right to talking about Nationals this year. But Sectionals must be too easy to worry about, right? Maybe I just need to watch that episode again lol.
